Striped Light, the collaborative project led by English producer Benge, has shared Foolish, the second single from the debut album For All This Beauty, due on 6 November 2026 on MemeTune. Elizabeth Bernholz of Gazelle Twin sings it, and she wrote it together with Benge.
Bernholz calls the song a time capsule for innocence and nostalgia, made at a time when she was carving out a very different sound of her own. Working over Benge’s synth arrangements, she says, “the song practically wrote itself”.
The album has been a long time coming. Benge, known for Creep Show, Wrangler and John Foxx and the Maths, began writing the electronic backing tracks in 2007 and brought in Sam Genders of Tunng to co-write the songs at his studio in Shoreditch, East London. Over the next few years he invited Hannah Peel, Elizabeth Bernholz, Serafina Steer, Juliana Venter and Tara Busch of I Speak Machine to sing.
Other projects then pushed the record aside. In 2023 Benge’s manager Steve Malins asked what had become of it, and the old mix files were dug out and remixed at the MemeTune Studio, by then located in Cornwall. The Bandcamp notes describe the result as sparkling electronic alt-pop, nearly 20 years in the making.
Session bassist Kuma Harada, Minimoog player Max Middleton and Tunng guitarist Mike Lindsay complete the line-up, and John Foxx created the cover artwork. Each of the nine tracks pairs Benge with one singer: Tara Busch on Atoms, Between the Trees and Motorcade, Hannah Peel on Dive Deep and The City, Serafina Steer on Echoes and Wake Up, and Juliana Venter on the closing Sleep.
