German-Finnish futurepop duo PLATRONiC will release the three-track EP The Emperor’s New Clothes on 16 October 2026. It reworks their March single “Fortress of Fools” three ways, with two guest collaborators and one version kept in-house.
Kay Burden wrote the original as a poem inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale of the same name, aiming for a storytelling ballad. Finnish composer and producer Sami Jumppanen answered with a danceable instrumental, and the finished single became something else entirely.
On the new EP, “The Dark Electro Country Dress” is a collaboration with On Moral Ends, the Linköping project of Swedish songwriter Andreas Svensson. “The Synthpop Mashup Dress” brings in Finnish keyboardist, producer and remixer Imppu from Lahti, who has also reworked material for former Kraftwerk member Wolfgang Flür. The third cut, “The Dark Medieval Gothic Dress,” is PLATRONiC alone.
According to the duo, “Fortress of Fools” spent several weeks in the Top 10 of both the Klangwald Charts and the German Electronic Music Webcharts after its March release, peaking at #8 on Klangwald. The single’s video was filmed in Savonlinna, Finland, and Alicante, Spain.
PLATRONiC formed in 2020 around Burden (Frankfurt am Main) and Jumppanen (Savonlinna). Side-Line readers may also know them from “How To Ride The Wave,” which appeared on the Freya Files Ukraine benefit compilation earlier this year.
