Argentinian artist Carmen Burguess has released El Mar, out since 9 October 2026. It is the first single from her debut solo album, Flores de Cuero, due digitally on 15 January 2027 through Mixta Music, with a vinyl edition to follow later in the year.
It is also her first new recorded music since the final album by Mueran Humanos, the Argentinian post-punk duo she was part of for close to twenty years and four albums, until it split in February 2025.
The song starts out bright and danceable, with bouncy synths and a deep groove. Halfway through, a key change tips it into distorted minor chords and a darker mood. Post-Punk.com, which premiered the single, pointed fans of Chris & Cosey and HTRK towards it.
The lyric is in Spanish. It opens with “Por qué no vienes a buscarme?” (Why don’t you come looking for me?) and keeps returning to the refrain “Me niegan el mar” — they deny me the sea — before ending on that same plea, repeated.
Burguess wrote the music and lyrics, sang, played keyboards and recorded the vocals herself. She co-produced with Ernesto Romeo and Lucas Romeo, who also play drums, with Lucas on bass and Mateo Sánchez Galán on the arpeggio. The track was recorded at La Siesta del Fauno in Buenos Aires, mixed by Lazlo Haegner at Butterama Studio in Berlin and mastered by Pablo Gil.
Flores de Cuero was written and recorded between Buenos Aires and Berlin, the two cities where she is based. Live dates in Buenos Aires, Mexico City and Berlin are planned after the album comes out. Her newly launched website will gather her stories, dream journals and drawings over time, starting with an unpublished short story in Spanish released alongside El Mar.
