Irish synthpop veteran Paul Quin heads straight for the dancefloor with People Look Better At Night, the second single from his upcoming album Hivemind, out on 30 October through Copenhagen label Town And Towers Records.
Where lead single Dancing With The Devil leaned on new romantic glamour, this one goes further into disco: a glittering groove wrapped around a song about turning away from whoever is hurting you and getting back out there.
Quin co-wrote and produced the track with Eamonn “J-Wookie” Barrett, formerly of Irish band Royseven. The label sums up its mood in one line: “Sometimes we cry. But after light, we rise.”
The monochrome cover, lit up with neon specks and bold red lips, sets the nocturnal tone, and the official video premiered on the Town And Towers channel on 28 October.
Quin first came to attention as the voice of synthpop duo biaZarre, and Hivemind follows his 2021 solo album Life On Earth. The new record, due in December on digital, CD and vinyl, also features work with producer Mark Saunders, known for his credits with Erasure, The Human League and Pet Shop Boys.
