German synthpop project Meersein returns with Ruins, a new single out on 30 October and the first taste of the upcoming record Perfection.
Behind the name is Jan Schütz, an artist and radio presenter from Oldenburg who blends the sound of 1980s synth music with dark atmospheres and modern electronic production.
Ruins is a song about relentless ambition and the damage it leaves behind, built around one recurring line: “We pushed too hard, we went too far.” Its lyrics paint a civilisation in decline, with poisoned air, collapsing skyscrapers, burning forests and a sun that has turned into a cold, distant observer.
Schütz mixed and mastered the track himself, and it comes out independently as a digital single. The official video premiered a day ahead of release, while the cover pairs an abandoned, rubble-strewn room with stark purple and mint tones.
The single follows Tide Myself and Ariel, both released earlier this year, and Perfection is already up for pre-order in the Meersein shop.
