Scottish-Swedish electronic duo Unify Separate have released Heart Aches, a new single that landed on 29 October 2026, just one week ahead of their third studio album.
Arriving on the eve of All Hallows’ weekend, a time of remembrance and reflection, the band call it “a bittersweet synth-pop hymn about love, loss and the closing of a chapter that can never be reopened.”
It is a song born from personal experience, about the people who leave an indelible mark on our lives even after they are gone. One of the duo’s most direct choruses is wrapped in sweeping electronics and cinematic grandeur, melancholy and uplifting in equal measure.
The single also shows a different side of the band. Leo Josefsson wrote it and takes lead vocals and synths himself, with Andrew Montgomery on backing vocals. Josefsson recorded, produced, mixed and mastered the track at Kiss the Needle in Stockholm.
Montgomery, formerly of Geneva, and Josefsson met in Stockholm in 2015. Their third album, The God Particle, is due on 6 November 2026. Side-Line, which has just published a long interview with Josefsson, says the record brings harder electronics and more assertive rhythms.
