Belfast composer Alpha Chrome Yayo has announced Midnight Sparkle, a new twelve-track album that lands digitally on 30 October 2026.
On Bandcamp he sums it up as “a late night cocktail of jazz funk, Shōwa-style grooves and sparkling midnight madness from ACY and friends.” His own announcement on Bluesky was even shorter: “Hot jazz funk! Shōwa-style vibes! Cool guests and crazy instruments!”
The friends are named in the credits. NOZ, who features on Night Painting, is credited with vocals, co-writing and co-production, Markolita, who features on Brighter Than The Day, with vocals, and Mary Koppelaar with lyrics, vocal production and engineering. The Night Painting lyrics are written in Japanese and printed on the album page alongside an English version.
Three tracks are already out with the pre-order: Night Painting, Heads UP! and Chop Shop Bop. The rest of the tracklist reads like a night out in itself, from We’re So Back and Task Failed Successfully to the closer, Sparkle Forever.
The record sits where synthwave meets city pop and game music, which suits a producer whose Bandcamp profile says he makes “hot music for cool games and YOUR STEREOS” and lists him as lead composer for Promise Mascot Agency.
Alongside the download there is a deluxe 12-inch on translucent blue heavyweight vinyl, shipping from the end of January 2027. A free online listening party runs on Bandcamp on 29 October, the night before release. The album is supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
