Swedish producer Johan Agebjörn, best known for his work with Sally Shapiro, has shared Substitute For Love, a new single sung by jazz vocalist Ellen Andrea Wang. It came out on 16 October 2026.
The track is the fourth song on Casablanca Nights 2: The Unveiled Chapter, a twelve-track album due on 30 October 2026 through Blanco y Negro Music. Agebjörn wrote Substitute For Love with Elizabeth Morphew and Wang, and it runs just over four and a half minutes.
Agebjörn told Retropop he wanted a jazz singer for this one, so he contacted Wang after recently discovering her through a concert on Swedish TV. “She delivered marvellous vocals and added some jazzy stems, it’s one of my favourite tracks on the album,” he said.
The album is a sequel to Casablanca Nights, which Paper Bag Records released in 2011, and it uses the same idea: a different voice on every track. Beautiful Stranger with Little Boots was the first single on 21 August, followed by Falling with Yota on 4 September.
The rest of the guest list reads like an Italo and synth-disco who’s who: R. Missing, Fred Ventura, NINA, Dana Jean Phoenix with Mikael Ögren, Tom Hooker, Bunny X, and Ryan Paris alongside Sally Shapiro on Love On Ice. Steve Moore plays a saxophone solo on Waiting For Magic.
Agebjörn produced the whole record himself. It was mastered by Tom Waltz, with artwork by Alex Borrell, and his Bandcamp notes say the plan is to keep the series going with a third volume in the 2030s.
Substitute For Love is out now on all major platforms, and Casablanca Nights 2 is open for pre-order.
