Veljanov, the solo project of Deine Lakaien singer Alexander Veljanov, is back with Nomos Shanderilan, a new single and official video out since 13 October 2026 on Prophecy Productions. It is the first track from Shanderilan, his fourth solo album and his first since Porta Macedonia in 2008.
Veljanov calls the song a ride through several genres held together by what he describes as the “Veljanov cosmos”. The label notes put country-inspired foundations, rock dynamics and synthesiser textures side by side on the opener, all under that deep, dark baritone.
The title carries a message. “The title is meant as a call to resist attempts to shred our free, democratic values and principles, and to defy the power-hungry enemies of democracy,” Veljanov says. Shanderilan itself is a made-up name for an imagined dystopian realm where freedoms and rights have been stripped away, a thread that runs through the whole album.
The monochrome video stars Veljanov with dancer Lea Fierke. It was directed by Oliver Sommer and produced by Birgit Sommer for AVA Studios.
Veljanov made the album in close collaboration with Macedonian composer Goran Trajkoski, who also plays guitar in his band and wrote the score for Milčo Mančevski’s Before the Rain. Shanderilan has nine tracks, and Prophecy has the CD digipak and gatefold vinyl editions on pre-order for 15 January 2027. A 7-inch single pairs Nomos Shanderilan with Lied für Annabel Lee.
Born in North Macedonia, Veljanov co-founded Deine Lakaien with composer Ernst Horn in Munich in 1985. His solo story began in 1998 with Secrets of the Silver Tongue, followed by The Sweet Life in 2001 and Porta Macedonia, before a long break.
