Leeds post-punk and electronic pioneers The Cassandra Complex have Generating Station Complex out on CD and 180g vinyl since 30 October 2026 via COP International. The album first arrived digitally on Bandcamp Day, 4 September.
This is not a remaster package. Rodney Orpheus, Paul Dillon and Andy Booth went back into the studio and made new recordings of songs that have stayed at the heart of their live set, including “Moscow Idaho”, “The War Against Sleep”, “Nightfall” and “One Millionth Happy Customer”. Volker Zacharias plays bass.
The spark was the band’s 40th anniversary tour, 49 shows across 13 countries. The backing tracks built for those concerts sounded strong enough to finish in the studio, the same route the band took on 2024’s Death & Sex. Orpheus sums up the result: “It’s loud, direct, and completely uncompromising.”
The songs reach back four decades. “March” was the band’s self-financed first single in 1985, “One Millionth Happy Customer”, “Ground” and “Second Shot” first appeared on Theomania in 1988, and “Nightfall” on the 1990 album Cyberpunx. The CD adds “(In Search of) Penny Century”, which is not on the vinyl.
The album was recorded at Magic Library Studio West in Venice Beach and Magic Library Studio North in Todmorden, and produced by Orpheus. The sleeve uses a 1985 Leeds photo by Linda Molyneux, designed by Antony Johnston, the writer of The Coldest City, the graphic novel that became Atomic Blonde.
The video above is a re-edit of the band’s very first video, shot in a Leeds basement in 1985, now set to the new version of “March” and mixed with live footage from one of their earliest shows in The Hague in 1986.
The band take the songs on a European tour with Swedish guests SJÖBLOM, starting on 6 November in Waregem and running through Germany, the Netherlands, Croatia and the Czech Republic before closing at Plage Noire Festival on 21 November.
