Neon Odin, the Norse-themed synth project of Hungarian musician vvildr, released the eight-track album Fólkvangr on 6 November 2026, nearly three years after the 2023 debut Allfather.
The Bandcamp notes sum it up in two lines: “Worshipping 80s synths, the Vanir and the Æsir. Dark norsewave sounds with shards of northern folk music, played on self built folk instruments.”
Those instruments are old Scandinavian string instruments: the talharpa, a bowed lyre, and the nyckelharpa, a fiddle with keys. vvildr plays them alongside synths, guitars and bass, and handles the songwriting, production and cover art alone.
Where Allfather leaned on the Æsir, with tracks like “Wield The Hammer” and “March Of The Jǫtnar”, the new record turns to the Vanir. It opens with “Future Carved In Stone” and “Vanaheim”, passes through “A Cloak Of Feathers”, “Seidr” and the title track and closes on “First Of The Valkyries” and “Brisingamen”.
The result sits at the dark, cinematic end of synthwave, with 80s synth arpeggios carrying old northern melodies.
