Synthpop pioneer Howard Jones has taken his new single to the club. Stand Up (The Remixes) came out on Cherry Red Records on 16 October 2026, with four new versions of the song that first appeared in July.
“Stand Up” is the first single from Global Citizen, the new studio album Jones plans to release in 2027. It started when his original Roland Jupiter-8 came back from repair, the same synth he used on What Is Love?, New Song and Things Can Only Get Better.
“All of the sounds you hear in the track, including the drums are all created from my original Jupiter-8,” Jones says on his official site. The lyric was inspired by a poem by the late civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson.
“The key message of Stand Up is that you are important and not to let others shut your voice down… stand up and be counted,” he adds.
The remix EP keeps it in the family. Jones’ nephew Phil Jones delivers a Club Mix and a 5:44 Extended Club Mix, Chicky Reeves turns in the Chicky and Coco Mix, and the original version closes the digital release.
There is also a live take recorded at The Anthem in Washington DC on 15 August 2026, during Jones’ first Things Can Only Get Better tour of North America with Wang Chung, The English Beat and Modern English. Details of a 2027 edition of the tour are still to be announced.
Speaking to Billboard in July, Jones called Global Citizen possibly “the last sort of full-on synth record that I’ll do,” which makes these first previews worth catching.
