Dead Astronauts have released Shallow Grave, their fifth studio album, on Cold Transmission Music. It came out digitally and on CD on 2 October 2026, and two gatefold vinyl editions followed on 9 October, each limited to 150 copies, one on solid white and one on solid orange.
The duo describe it as a record that “pulls from darkwave, synthwave and post-punk without settling comfortably into any one of them.” Underneath the drone and distortion, they say, it is about being human in an increasingly strange world, and about the uncomfortable realisation that none of us are getting out of it alive.
Ten tracks make up the album: An Intro, Bodies, Shallow Grave, Get Lost, Glistening Things, Who Kills Who, Stuck (In a Modern Day Cult), Make It Right, From Dust, and a Dark Club Version of Bodies to close. Dead Astronauts wrote and produced it themselves. It was mixed and mastered at Influx Studios in Bern, and the art and design come from JthreeConcepts.
Get Lost opened the campaign in June, and its official video followed on 10 July. Shot on degraded, VHS-style footage, it shows masked figures gathering around Jared Kyle as hands reach toward him, while the lyric keeps returning to the line “what will you do when I’m just bones”.
Dead Astronauts began in Seattle in late 2011 as the project of digital illustrator Jared Kyle Nickerson. The debut Constellations arrived in 2014 and Arms of Night followed on NewRetroWave in 2016. Since moving to Cold Transmission Music in 2020, the band has released Silhouettes, Silhouettes Redux and Ghosts. Today it is the duo of Kyle in Seattle and Slade Templeton in Bern.
