German project Coloured Tears released the five-track EP The Burden Of Proof on 3 November 2026, together with an official video for the title track.
Coloured Tears is André Grafert. He started making music in 1985 as a big fan of the dark scene, and in 1989 founded the wave band Liquid Dreams with guitarist Jojo Brandt, which ran until 1991. Since then he has self-released a long run of Coloured Tears albums.
The new EP takes aim at a very current problem: false positives from AI music detectors. In Grafert’s words on Bandcamp, “AI music detectors prove nothing. They estimate statistical probabilities – and they are often wrong.” He has been on the receiving end himself, as more musicians fall under suspicion even though every note was played by hand.
He points out the irony that the stylistic hallmarks of electro, darkwave and post-punk may themselves act as red flags. His answer is that artists should not have to prove they are human, and that AI providers should label generated music from the start with tamper-proof watermarks and digital fingerprints.
Alongside the title track, the EP runs through “False Positive”, “Der Letzte Code – The Final Fracture”, “Shards Of Truth (Scherben)” and “Digital Flatline”. According to the video description, “The Burden Of Proof” is also the first single from the new album Welcome To My World (Red World).
All Coloured Tears releases are available exclusively on Bandcamp.
