The beginning of an ending. Nightlights, the synthwave project based in Halesowen, UK, released the single Slow on 1 November 2026, and it comes with news: it is the first track from what is billed as the final Nightlights album, “The Thirteenth Hour”.
That album is due out, in the artist’s own careful wording, “hopefully in December”. Until then, Slow sets the tone at a measured three minutes and forty-five seconds.
The single also carries a bonus. Its B-side, “The Cat’s Night Walk”, stretches out to almost nine minutes and is an exclusive that won’t appear on the album, so this release is the only place to find it.
Nightlights describes the project as UK synthwave, retrowave and electro, with 80s-themed music at its heart. The previous album, Somewhere Else, came out in October 2024 as the first Nightlights album since 2022’s April Flowers, and the Bandcamp catalogue also holds the album Stories, the Atom Dance and Claws Out EPs, and the more recent Flight.
If The Thirteenth Hour really is the last chapter, Slow is the first page of it. A good moment to go back through the earlier records before the final one lands.
