North Carolina synthpop duo Pleasure Victim has released Beside Berlin, a six-track set of B-sides from their 2025 album “Berlin”. It arrived on Bandcamp on 31 October 2026.
Pleasure Victim is the married duo Taylor and Alison Hill. They first emerged in 2020 with a debut single, drawing on their time in the goth and industrial club scenes on the West Coast, and now work from the Appalachian Mountains.
“Berlin” came out on 24 October 2025, after Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina in September 2024. Taylor Hill wrote, performed and produced it, with vocals by Alison Hill, additional vocals by Lisa Adams and mastering by Mick Morrison.
The title was never really about the city. “‘Berlin’ is less about a real place and more about a state of mind,” the duo said when the album came out. “It’s a dream city that anyone can have in their heart.”
Beside Berlin reworks four album songs: “Heart of the Sun (Amen Mix)”, “Gemma (Stigmata Mix)”, “Our Lady of Sorrows (Passionist Mix)” and “Blue Jean Tyranny (Semi-Automatic Mix)”. It closes with “Sweet Nothings” twice, first as a 47-second original phone recording and then in its single mix.
