The girl in the bunny mask is back. MASKED, the darksynth project of Marce Romero, released Beauty Hurts on 30 October 2026, a 15-track concept album and the sequel to 2025’s Bloody Sweetheart.
The story picks up with Pretty Face, the young woman behind the mask, who barely survived the Boy’s attack. She cheats death, heads for Los Angeles and reinvents herself as Beauty Hurts, an alternative model who is, in the album’s own words, “killing the competition with her style… quite literally”.
Musically, MASKED calls it a return to darksynth “combined with metal and industrial”, drawing on the sound of 90s movies and contemporary hardcore. The album tells the killer’s story in the first person, and much of it is carried by the music alone.
Where there are voices, they matter. MASKED sings “Burn It All Down”, “God Complex” and “Bunny Kill Wolf (True Ending)”; JOWIEEE takes the lead on “Die On Me”, with extra production by Toni Leys; Pili Electrica sings “Martyr Me”; and COMPAKT reads the breaking-news bulletin of “We Interrupt This Program”, which reports the runway murder at the heart of the plot.
“Road To Fame” and “You Know That’s Me” were the first taste, out as a double single on 18 September. The record closes on the eight-minute “Corpus Aeternum (Finale)” and then the true ending. All production, lyrics, writing and cover art are by MASKED, published by Heavy Touch Prod., and a cassette edition is on sale for a short time.
