Canadian new wave veterans Spoons have announced Nightlife, their eighth full-length album, due on 6 November 2026 on CD, download and 180-gram red vinyl. The first single, Take The World, is out now with a video on the band’s YouTube channel.
The band describe Take The World as a song about dreaming, making those dreams real and bringing them back, even if only for one more night. It sits second on a ten-track album that opens with the title song and closes with Your Heart Not Your Head.
Nightlife is the first Spoons album released independently of a record company, with the band keeping full creative control. The Bandcamp notes promise drum-machine beats and relentless synth melodies, and frame the record as a trip back to the Nova Heart era seen four decades later with new eyes.
Jeff Carter produced and mixed the album and handled synth and drum programming, as he did on Static in Transmission (2010) and New Day New World (2019). Gord Deppe wrote the songs and sings and plays guitar, Sandy Horne sings and plays bass, Scott MacDonald plays keyboards, and Chris McNeill and Tony Ferraro share the drums, with Mathew Deppe adding keyboards in the studio.
Formed in Burlington, Ontario in 1980, Spoons cut their debut Stick Figure Neighbourhood with a then-unknown Daniel Lanois engineering, before John Punter’s production on Nova Heart made them a household name in Canada. Take The World, Better Late Than Never Did It and Doomed have already become live favourites.
Side-Line lists four Canadian dates around the release, from Maxwell’s in Waterloo on 16 October to The Concert Hall in Toronto on 5 December with Images In Vogue. The album is up for pre-order now.
